Family: Cimicidae

Order: Hemiptera

Bedbugs are a huge problem in North American urban areas because cities are so heavily populated. These bugs are easily transferable, they do not cling to our skin but instead stick to our belongings (clothes, purses, luggage, etc). Typical places where they can be found are in motels and hotels, other households, public transportation, hospitals, and other buildings.

They are flattened, oval shaped bugs with a light brown to reddish-brown colour. Their average body length ranges from about 1-5 millimeters. Bedbugs essentially feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. The common bedbugs found in households, which feed on humans and household pets are known as Cimex Lectularius. They are known to be attracted to carbon dioxide and the body heat that humans give off, having the ability to travel over 20 feet from hiding in order to feed, but are usually found 3 to 6 feet from the hosts. Bedbugs are mainly found in mattresses, sofas, bed frames, baseboards and under carpets. Signs of bedbugs are black dotted stains on your mattresses, pillows, couches, etc., also bite marks on exposed skin, which are usually in a line consisting of 2 to 6 bites. Many develop an itchy red welt after being bitten. Health effects that may result from being bitten include skin rashes, allergic symptoms, and psychological effects. What makes these bloodsuckers an ideal pest, is their capability to survive for extended periods without feeding for up to 1 year.

Preparation for Bedbugs Treatment

  • Move all furniture 2 feet away from baseboard areas for the spraying of all baseboards.
  • Any clothing or blankets that you have, should be put in the dryer to heat up and kill the bedbug eggs or bugs. Once dried, they should be stored in plastic bags or containers.
  • Empty all necessary drawers, closets and cabinets for treatment
  • Allow three weeks from the time of treatment for the chemical to be completely effective.

My tenant had a cockroach problem in the basement, so I called Termax. They came at the scheduled time and took their time to spray all the cabinets and baseboards. Ever since that treatment there has no longer been any cockroaches.

I called Termax for my raccoon problem back in June. The technician took his time to explain us the situation. He installed a one-way door and the next day my problem was solved. He even found 5 baby raccoons in my attic that I was unaware of! They also sealed up all my vents to prevent any other raccoons or squirrels from breaking in again.

I heard noises in the middle of the night so I went to take a look. When I went to my kitchen I saw a mouse running by! I'm terrified of mice so my friend told me to try calling Termax even though it was really late. This was around 1am but they still sent a technician out right away when I called. He came within the hour. Not only did he catch the mouse for me but also laid some bait stations around my house. I was really happy with their service, haven't seen a single mouse since then
